Blessed Mess

Every time our Marietta Times subscription comes up for renewal, I look deep into my soul for answers. There are so many times when I wonder why I pay $135 a year for this paper. Let us just say that we are not politically aligned with the local rag. One of the reasons I miss having a parrot: I used to take great delight in putting the Op-Ed page, with its featured columnists Jonah Goldberg and Michelle Malkin, under Charlie's perch. Bullseye.

Then there are the articles like the one to the left of this photo, detailing the escapades of a Marietta man who, let's see, drove his stepson's girlfriend home (because the stepson was in jail for driving without a license), and then "somehow ended up driving the girl home and spent the night." Doing bad things.
It all gets numbing, what makes the papers around here. It's like living near Pederast Central, to read this paper. Blecch.

And then there are the stories and pictures that make my heart leap. You'll excuse me my honestly acquired German heritage of Schadenfreude (taking pleasure in the misfortune of others) for a moment, I hope. Here is a semi loaded with used cooking oil, which looks chunky and nasty when the driver puts a wheel off the pavement edge and spills it on Glendale Road.

Gaag.

And here is what Jasmine Rogers, Times photographer, captured.

Well played, Ms. Rogers.  The Lord sometimes works in mysterious ways.

Ho, ho, ho! Well done Jasmine Rogers. But $135 a year? = a week's groceries, or? High price for local intel, still more so for the op-eds when so stultifying, or worse.

I just filed our yearly subscription payment 280 per.

I have to line the cages of 20 long term care parrots, so figure I might as well support a few local writers. The Sun Sentinal is not by far the most conservative paper in our area, and they do include some good news stories on certain days of the week.

Kathy in..... well you know.

Oh, tee hee.
Schadenfreude--those Germans...they do have a word for every human emotion, even ones we didn't know we had until we read the word!
Reporters and photographers in local newspapers have to get their laughs somewhere.

Money speaks. If you don't agree with the paper, cancel it. That's what I did with the paper in my area, the San Diego Union Tribune. Finally stopped giving them my money.

I think you were being too kind to Michele!

If it weren't for my parrots, and their need for bird cage liners, I would not get a newspaper. How does it make the world any better for me to know about the tragedies and negativity that is out there? The knowledge certainly does not help ME in any way.

Lovely blog...it's a shame you had to infuse politics into it.

Isn't it? Pity, too, that our newspaper adopts such an unabashedly aggressive anti-administration stance and that I continue to support it by subscribing. I do it because I need to know what else is going on.
