Child of wonder Child of light
Child of freckled beauty bright
Ever growing never slowing
Crack us up with comic might
You don’t seem twelve.
You’re much more eight
A mother’s wish To recreate
The little boy she loves so much
And keep him near to see and touch
But boys grow up. Too soon they’re tall
It’s hard for Moms to grasp, that’s all.
You’re still you. You’re still in there
Towhead babe or young man fair
We’re proud of you, all you’ve become
You have yet to add the sum
Of baby, toddler, boy and man
The math is hard; we know you can.
You’ve come so far! Another year
To thrive and grow and light our lives
With grace and wit and sayings sly.
My boy likes pie.
